Fear

Fear is a natural process. It is a part of the human body’s safety mechanism. Another word for fear is “caution.” It is only when we let ourselves take fear up to the next level, that it becomes paralysis, in one of its many forms.

There is nothing funny about being full of fear. It must be one of the most unpleasant and debilitating processes on the face of the planet. At least, it me it has felt that way, from time to time during my life.

Fear is totally unreasonable in its relationship with us. It is completely in-one’s-face, like the proverbial monkey on our backs. It never lets up in its attacks on our sense of well being, and it does everything to distract us from having happiness or contentment in life.

Some years ago, I listened to a fellow who described fear as “Excitement, only without the oxygen.” And in that moment of hearing his words, a light came on in my head, and I saw, illuminated by my own realization, the fact that the person who decides what is fearful for me, is myself.
