Rewrite Your PastI originally called this "Rewrite your History." Then I remembered that history and the past are different. A history is a record of a past, and is recorded by a separate observer of the times and events which comprise that past. We are not observing our past, we actually lived and experienced it. All we have left of the past are the memories, thoughts and feelings. Each moment of your life appears from the womb of the future, lives in the moment of moving across your thoughts, and then disappears into the grave of the past. We can't go back and relive that moment no matter how badly we want to. Neither can we escape it, no matter how much we want to. I spent a long time believing I was stuck with the painful memories and shame of my childhood. One day I was told an amazing thing. A wise man told me I could change my concept of my past by changing the way I felt about it. I thought he was nuts. Then I discovered I was driving myself nuts by hanging on to painful, shame filled memories by the thoughts and feelings I was choosing to have. He showed me that, since I alone create my thoughts and feelings, I alone was continually recreating the pain and shame. As a small boy, I met some severe abuse at the hands of one particular person. Armed with this new knowledge, I have gradually taken ownership of my thoughts and feelings, and change them as I work through the issues. They still come up, and when they do, I apply the same principle of ownership. After releasing it some more from my life and forgiving both myself and the person involved, I feel better. You can rewrite your past. Instead of pushing around a psychic wheelbarrow loaded with painful baggage, you can release that energy for transformation into a peaceful and prosperous life. If you were abused or hurt as a child, remember you were not responsible for what happened to you. It took me quite a while to understand this, and it may take you a while also. That's okay, we've got the rest of our lives. Next article...
