Coming To Terms

"Coming to terms" with something means working out an agreement, and abiding by the rules laid out in that agreement. Walking your path with heart means coming to terms with a lot of issues; and the biggest one of all is coming to terms with ourselves. This is the cornerstone of all the true healing we will ever do.

How do we do this? It is all a matter of acceptance. Of accepting ourselves as fully as we can at this moment. It is not a case of "when" we get to such and such a point in our journey, or "when" we have healed such and such an issue, and so on. It is now, this moment in time. Whether you believe it or not, you are whole, complete and perfect just as you are. This is true no matter how flawed, broken or whatever we believe ourselves to be.

Please notice that above I say accepting ourselves as fully as we can at this moment. How well you do it is how well you do it. One day it works well, another day it doesn't. Don't judge it. As we practice accepting ourselves, an amazing thing happens. It gets easier and easier, and we accept ourselves more and more. If someone tells you they completely accept themselves 100% of the time, they are kidding themselves. Don't fool yourself into this subtle trap.

No matter what we want to heal and move on from, we must come to terms with it first. And it's impossible to come to terms with anything if we haven't come to terms with ourselves. This is shown by the story of the emperor who wore no clothes. It took the clear vision of a child to say "Hey mister, you're naked! - where are your clothes?"

Coming to terms with yourself means accepting the precious inner child who lives within you. It is that child who was shamed, made guilty or otherwise hurt and abused. It is from the inner child that the feelings of pain and fear flow.

Love, joy and happiness also arise from this beautiful inner being, and acceptance is the spirit of true love.
So, you see, in coming to terms with yourself, by accepting yourself as best you can in the moment, you are loving the most beautiful creature in the world - yourself.
