The Killing JudgeMind makes a wonderful judge. It is excellent at its task... as long as it is kept under control. Mind makes a wonderful servant while it makes for a terrible master. You see, there is so much mind doesn't understand, and we shouldn't hold this against mind, for mind is *not* very bright. Mind doesn't understand feelings, and all the processes that comprise a human being. It knows zip about life and even less about love. Mind has a nasty habit of objectifying whatever it focuses on. It turns whatever it's thinking about into a thing. Mind works on the basis of comparison, using the opposing pieces of evidence to reach a reasoned decision. It decides for itself what is true and what is false. This process works great when keeping a tally of how much we're spending in the supermarket, and remembering which side of the road to drive on. It's also great at storing and recalling all the useless information we were inundated with in school. I don't trust mind to do much more though. Since mind doesn't understand life, it is useless at helping us live it effectively. It is our feelings that inform, guide and lead us through life. Mind works on the basis of right/wrong, good/bad, true/false. None of these things exist in the real, physical world. They only exist in the mental world. And we don't live there - we live here, in the physical world. Life is process, a continually evolving stream of events. Poor old mind has lost the race before it has even left the starting gate. The word "decide" comes from the Latin words for "two" and "to kill." Mentally, one option is kept alive, while the other dies. This way of black and white thinking doesn't work in a multi-colored world. Mind freezes life into fixed pieces. I've seen some of life, while I've never seen a piece of life. On your path with heart, I urge you not to judge anything or anybody - and certainly not yourself. Do the best you can at that moment. Some moments you'll do well, other moments you won't. That's ok, never mind, that's life. Next article...
