Forgive, Then ForgetThe basis of all healing is acceptance. Acceptance of whatever needs to be accepted as-it-happened. This can be a tough row to hoe. And here-in lies a subtle twist to the path with heart. This twist is the element of forgiveness. Many of us have built a wall of convoluted feelings between ourselves and the pain. A wall of anger, blame, guilt and resentment, to name some of the major players. It is easy to pretend it didn't happen, it wasn't as bad as we think, and so on. A great deal of effort may be needed to overcome the inertia, the tendency to avoid touching the painful feelings with your mind and heart. It may require a focused energy of commitment to ignoring the surface hurt, creating partnership with the fear, diving in and discovering what is under the surface of your hurts. You may be very afraid of diving in, imagining that it may not be deep enough to break your dive. Maybe you believe you will hit bottom and break your neck instead. Or perhaps the equivalent of man eating sharks infest these unknown psychic and emotional waters. Honor your fears and concerns as being valid for you. Then realize they are not real, they are figments of a frightened and unsure imagination. Your precious inner child's imagination. The two elements of all forward moving progress are patience and persistence. Nothing more, nothing less. It doesn't take the brains of a rocket scientist to be happy, healed and serene. All it takes is a persistent mind and a patient heart. Don't worry about your soul. It is doing just fine, thank you. Fact is, it is your soul which guides you in knowing what is good for yourself. Think of it this way: your soul is connected to spirit which, in turn, gives your soul guidance. This in turn whispers to your heart which communicates with your mind while you sleep. My description may seem prosaic, yet this is how it all seems to work. So listen to your feelings, which are the voice of heart. They will guide you in what to do. Then, have the courage to touch that inner zone called "pain," and discover some more of your bliss. Next article...
