Direct Knowledge

Direct knowledge is something we cannot prove before the fact. Recently I asked a couple how they had met. The lady replied she was working as a waitress in a coffee shop when a man walked in, sat down and didn't even notice her. She went home that evening and told her mother "I met a man today who is going to be a major part of my life in the future." When mother asked in what way, she replied "I don't know yet, I just know he is." Now, years later, they are married with children.

Children know things they can't explain to the majority of adults. It's like kids have an "in" to an invisible world wherein dwells all sorts of magical and wondrous things. Casting my mind back, I can remember this world. Everything had a freshness, wonder and different-ness about it. Our direct ability to access this world diminishes from puberty on, as our thought processes become more objective than subjective. It is still available to us, though, and quite simply.

Direct knowledge is available to us as feelings. It is a visceral experience - a gut level response. Journaling as I describe it in The Write Place To Be puts you into the realm of direct knowledge. It is something you just know, as surely as when you look in the mirror you see yourself. Many times we make it convenient to drown these feelings out and rationalize another decision. We may do this if we are afraid of criticism, anger or disapproval, for example.

The theme I'm presenting in these articles is to trust yourself. No matter what poor choices you made in the past, they were the best you knew at the time; that's why you made them, and you can trust this fact. If you can trust yourself to walk down the street, you can trust yourself to walk down your path with heart. We all have the gift and ability of direct knowledge.

Trust yourself to know, on some level, what is good for yourself. Because, on some deep rooted plane you do already know. We all have a direct knowledge hot line to spirit. While it isn't possible to read another person's mind, it certainly is possible to read your own. On some level, in one of the rooms of the mansion of your mind, you know what is good for you.
