Attitudes and DetoxificationDetoxification is my favorite subject in a round about sort of way. I have talked to people who, while they are dedicated to keeping their bodies and environments clean, do little or nothing about the hygiene of their beliefs and attitudes. A lot of toxic waste is manufactured by your body when you hold to anger, resentment, fear, guilt and anxiety. To rid oneself of such pollution is simple and straightforward. Don't confuse simplicity with ease. Walking is a simple matter, yet walking a mile uphill without a break is not easy. Removing inner pollution is simple because we control both the source of toxification and the methods by which it spreads. The source is your attitude about yourself, and the method of emission is how you treat yourself by the way you speak and act. The atmosphere of the earth has weather patterns and prevailing winds; so does the atmosphere of where we live, work or play. We contribute to this atmosphere by the way we speak, act and think. Because we control the way we think, we control the way we speak and act, therefore we can emit whatever we want. I recently sat in a restaurant while an angry father rode herd over his teenage son, with the occasional "listen to your father!" thrown in by the frustrated mother. The boy sat, going deeper into his shell by the moment. Every time he spoke both parents sprang to their own defense by criticizing him. By their actions these probably well meaning parents were creating the condition they most likely were striving to resolve. The only way to truly detoxify ourselves is by changing our attitudes and looking at the world differently. By changing your outlook you can stop manufacturing the acid of indigestion because there is something you cannot stomach. Eczema disappears by removing what was getting under your skin in the first place; and breathing is easier once we remove that tight feeling in the chest caused by anxiety about life. There isn't much of a lasting effect in fasting, exercising or cleansing until we choose to embark upon the detoxification of the most important elements of all - our hearts and minds. Self-work is about releasing painful beliefs which separate us from our hearts. It is about trust, love, faith and belief. We live in a limitless universe full of wonder, magic and mystery. If we are to remove any pollution, let it be the smog of our own lack of self-acceptance. Next article...
