Like the Swish Of A Horse's Tail"Fortunes change like the swish of a horse's tail" said Buddha. And he wasn't kidding. One day we see to the horizons of our wildest imaginings, and other days we cannot see our hand in front of our face through the fog of fear. How quickly we move from loving ourselves and feeling safe in the world to fear and self-doubt. Oh doubting mind, what is it you want from me? Are you only happy when I am not? Where is your mercy for me, or do you even have a concept of the word? Must I forever check with you before I follow with confidence the flights and currents of my heart? Heart sings "Fly with me," and you mutter back "Stay grounded, you might fall." Heart tells me to trust, dance, believe in today and tomorrow, in dreams of a world united in love. And you inform me, with the "evidence of my senses," that such talk is for fools and those of simple mind. My heart whispers "Wake up, smell the roses," and you tell me "Wake up, smell the pollution!" I ask you "Are you ever happy, doubting mind?" and your reply is another question "Are you mad, naive human?" I'm coming to believe you are a distasteful fellow, doubting mind. I am beginning to believe you are a control freak at the bottom of it all, that happiness isn't on your agenda. Enough is never enough, my two faced friend. Would you be happier if I called you Janus? If my heart crash dived, you'd be happy, and take it as proof for how right you were. You know, doubting mind, you have been in the driver's seat too long. Given an inch, you have taken a yard. Well, it is better if you step down as leader of my decision making process. It is time for heart to have a say in the rest of my life. Well, Buddha was right again - fortunes do change like the swish of a horse's tail. So what do you think, doubting mind? Next article...
