Prosperity is about SharingI was in a coffee shop a few days ago, and a fellow came in to buy a coffee to go. He didn't look too prosperous, and it turned out he was short about 50 cents. There was an embarrassing moment until the guy next to him put some money on the counter and said: "Here man, my treat, today is my birthday, and it's my way of sharing it with you." If we humans shared honestly, there would be no famine or poverty in the world. Still, while that isn't going to happen on a global scale, it can happen instantly in our personal worlds. True sharing is not about money or stuff. It means sharing who we are. Sharing our warmth, ideas, talents, concerns and sorrows. It means sharing space with all the other creatures and people on the planet. Sharing is something our culture is not very good at. It means opening ourselves up to the cosmic dimension of energy and opportunity shared by everyone. We do this by giving up that "me or them" attitude, by realizing that, in this equal opportunity universe, there is enough for everyone, with lots left over. Our cultural "grab it while you can" attitude seals us off from the very source that is striving to give us real abundance at no cost or effort to ourselves. So while we don't need to share our last dollar with someone else, there is the need to share the common universe we live in. [last modified 4/25/05] Next page...
