It is good to hold a healthy degree of scepticism - the trick is keeping our balance on the tightrope we call proof. I don't accept that just because something is said by someone, it necessarily is true Annie Besant, one of the leading lights in the Theosophy movement in the late 18th century, is a good example. In the beginning, she energetically promoted atheism, and (in 1887) wrote a pamphlet, with Charles Bradlaugh, called "Why I Do Not Believe in God." This pamphlet is still considered one of the best arguments for atheism. Then, in the same year (1887), she suddenly "converted" to Theosophy after meeting Helene Blavatsky, and immediately started applying her energy to this new cause. Madame Blavatsky's past also has some serious questions as to the actual source of her "knowledge." I have read most of the works written by these two people, and found there is a lot of truth in their teachings, when it is taken in context to other spiritual and metaphysical teachings that are consistent, across civilizations, and the passage of time.
