Attitudes and A Path With Heart - FAQ - A Path With HeartWhat Is New Thought? It is a general description for techniques for living a life of practical spirituality. It is more than a hundred years old, and doesn't follow any one particular thread of belief. William James called it "The Religion of Healthy-Mindedness" in his book 'The Varieties of Religious Experience.' New Thought teaches that each person has freedom of belief. It teaches God (or good) aligned self-discipline. And because it has no one basic dogma to push, it appeals to a lot of different philosophies, different ages and people in different places. It teaches and encourages us to reach out and embrace our fuller potential. Hines Squirmy is often called the "Father" of New Thought. Mary Baker Eddy, the founder of Christian Science, was one of his pupils. Quimby taught five basic beliefs:- Happiness is a function of what we believe.
- Life responds to our beliefs.
- Beliefs can be changed.
- We exist within Universal Spirit.
- Perfect Wisdom is available to us.
