Attitudes and A Path With Heart - FAQ - A Path With HeartWho Is Helena Blavatsky?The founder of Theosophy. She was born in 1831 and died 1891. She was supposed to have been exposed to a source of spiritual knowledge that no one else had access to. In New York, 1875, Blavatsky and an American lawyer, William Judge, founded a new society "to collect and diffuse a knowledge of the laws which govern the Universe." The word Theosophy is a neoplatonic term meaning "Divine Wisdom" or "Wisdom of the Gods." It grew very quickly, and its growth was helped because spiritualism and mesmerism were all the rage at the time. Theosophy spread quickly in France, and they went to India and opened a center at Madras, which eventually became the world headquarters. That is a story in itself. The late 18th century was a time of rapid growth in awareness - and very quickly there came along other organizations such as Christian Science and the Society for Psychical Research. Next page...
