Attitudes and A Path With Heart - FAQ - A Path With HeartDoes Death Scare You?Yes, the idea scares me, even while the actual event has far less of an impact on me than does the idea itself. When we look at the idea of death, then we are invoking imagination, which has an unbridled ability to create whatever it wants. Therefore, imagination picks up the ball of the fact of death and runs with it at the speed of light into the place of creating limitless and breathless scenarios - with which we scare ourselves silly. Add to this the overwhelming amount of ignorance, disinformation and pure hyperbole that exists in our culture about the process of death, and we have lots of people terrified about one of the two main events about being a human being. The other main event, of course, being born. Paramahansa Yogananda once asked his guru, Sri Yukteswar, if he were afraid of death. Even as his guru, with his total knowledge of the meaning of life answered, his body gave an involuntary shudder. As Sri Yukteswar explained, it is only the physical body, with its visceral consciousness (ego), that is afraid. He went on to explain that the more a person identifies with their body and the world of stuff, then the deeper the bodily desire to avoid death. Next page...
