I Feel Like A Freak, And Only Me Feels This Way In The World, I'm Sure

A young man was born into the world with one leg shorter than the other, and he grew up feeling very much, shall we say, a freak? His family and others constantly teased him about it, because they saw how sensitive he was about the way he walked, etc. On the outside, he laughed and seemed to go along with the ribbing. On the inside, though, he felt like dying.

One day, he heard of a great healer who was reputed to heal any problem or issue. So he resolved to go see him. After many difficulties, he arrived at the foot of the mountain on the top of which this healer lived. In places, the path was so steep, he had, because of his gammy leg, to sit down and drag himself on his hands and backside up to the top.

Finally, in a foul mood, he made it to the gate of the healer's home. In the garden stood a short, fat old man watering his vegetable garden. Looking up, he saw the young man standing there, who was feeling vaguely disappointed and let down.

"Are you the healer?" the young fellow asked. "Yes, I guess I am," was the reply. "You don't look like a healer" replied the young man. "So what does a healer look like?" came the retort. Not an auspicious beginning! Finally, the healer smiled and asked "How can I help you?"

The young man poured out his tale of grief and woe, leaving out not a single detail - "What should I do?" he wailed. The healer thought for a moment, shrugged and said "So limp."

In a flash of self-realization, the young man found his healing. And he went down the mountain and became a great healer himself.
