To feel shame comes from the feeling of believing you are broken or defective in some way as a human being. And we could only have got this feeling from things we experienced, the way we were treated, and the things we have been told about ourselves. As a consequence, we get ourselves into situations which result in feeling shame, because we are naturally acting out what we believe to be true for ourselves. The first step in healing this is to realize the truth behind our motives. The truth is that we *learned* to feel shamed. While the past is dead and gone, what lives on in our minds are the shame filled memories, and once you choose to decide to heal the shame, then the same emotional energy you bound yourself with is available to start freeing yourself with.
